Summer School will be loads of fun this summer with my (not so little anymore) Idaho William. We picked up a couple ukuleles from Dunkley Music in Boise, and checked out some chord and music books from the library. We also have started watching Youtube videos about how to play the ukulele. We will be learning to play Somewhere Over the Rainbow and It's a Wonderful World. We watch this video every day too, and every single time I listen to it my eyes swell up with tears. It fills my heart up with love, or as it would be said in the islands it fills William and I with the Aloha spirit. These songs have always done that to me. My sweet boy wants to learn to play these songs. When I was very little I had a music box that played Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and I played with it all the time, and carried around with me, and to school during Kindergarten and first grade. One of my grandfather's favorites songs was What a Wonderful World. I am excited to learn to play these songs with William, and that my eleven year old wants to do a duet with me. We picked up a set of audio discs from the library to learn how to speak Hawaiian. So far it is pretty challenging, and we are planning to learn at least a few words and phrases. We have begun Google searching authentic Hawaiian food recipes, and will decide on a couple things we want to make. We are almost halfway through the book Kauai Tales by Frederick B. Wichman. It's eighteen stories related to Kauai's history, phenomena, and mythology. William and I read a little of it each day, and he writes the stories when we are finished reading. He is really looking forward to seeing the Sleeping Giant when we go on an adventure expedition. We also bought a travel book to learn about the island, become familiar with maps, make a list of things we would like to do and see while we are visiting Kauai. We also have some other books to learn about plants, animals, and the ocean life around the island. Starting today we have picked up where we left off last summer with learning about Idaho's Craters of the Moon, and are learning about the volcanoes of Hawaii. Then we will build a volcano. I spotted a bag of Kauai coffee at the grocery store, and although it's not my typical organic coffee, it is soooo yummy. I don't think we will want to leave the island once we get there. Idaho William may have to become Hawaii William. ;) Aloha, Jessica and William

We took a day to drive down memory lane and make our own video, and our first video together, about the place we met, and some of our favorite places when we first began dating. We visited our favorite nightclub, parks, creeks, the "kissing corner," and the place Jack first asked me to run off and get married years ago. See the Proposal video. See pics from the early years here. See a video about Jimmy, and blog about how we met. Before meeting Jack, Jessica had met Jimmy Mahoney. Jimmy was 53 years older than Jessica. Jimmy and Jessica became best friends through dancing every friday night at a few of their favorite local clubs. Often Jimmy would come and visit Jessica and her son William, or Jessica and William would go visit Jimmy and his wife and talk about Jimmy's Hot Wheels and train collection, or his wife's china collection. Their home was like a museum. In the summertime Jimmy sometimes drove his 1970s pink Chevy Malibu with the back seat filled with Pink Panthers, you know from the cartoon. A few times Jimmy let Jessica drive the car around when they went out dancing. Jimmy and Jessica had been dancing a couple of years, when one night, Jimmy introduced Jessica to Jack inside a place called Club Max. Jimmy knew Jack from way back when Jack was more heavily involved the dance scene. Silly as it may seem to some, Jessica felt a spark immediately, needless to say her and Jack hit it off. They talked for a bit with Jimmy and one another. Typically this wasn't an easy thing to do, to get Jessica off the dance floor! When Jack left after their brief conversation, Jessica wondered how long it would be before they would meet again, if he would come back into Club Max again. A couple years had gone by, spending most Friday nights here with Jimmy, and this was the first time she ever saw him visit the place. Sure enough Jack came back a handful of times over the next six months. Jack wouldn't dance much, but would visit with Jessica when she took her few breaks off the dance floor. Each conversation their friendship growing, getting to know one another, sometimes emailing each other between fridays at Club Max, until Jack finally asked Jessica out on a real date. A couple years into dating, by the end of 2009 Jack and Jessica decided to move in together in Jessica's newly built home. Over the years there have been a lot of adventures, ups and downs, fights ( hey, it's life, and expected when two strong-willed, stubborn people team up), surgeries, illness, businesses to take care of ( visit Jessica's site, www.womanoftheabyss.com), camping trips, Oregon Coast trips, college, homeschooling, Idaho William ( visit www.idahowilliam.com), lots of love, lots of laughter, successes, and ideas tried, and so much more. Most importantly, there has always been friendship and love to keep the spark alive. Here is a fun video clip the news did on Jimmy. He was in the news a few times for his trains, bringing Santa to his home during Christmas for children of his friends and family, and his dancing, and they referred to him as a gem in the gem state. All the rest of us called him Disco Jimmy. ** See pics from the early years, here. ** See our Memory Lane video. After 9 years together, Jack walked into an all women's event to propose to Jessica after her tango performance with the Diva Dolls at Inner Diva. April 25, 2015. See our Memory Lane video Summer, Romance, Adventure, Travel. We are going to Hawaii for a destination wedding, and we couldn't be more excited!
Jack and William have their suits picked out using the colors William chose. Sand colored suits with blue and yellow shirt/tie. Jessica has her bouquet and dress picked out, and is seriously going to go crazy waiting to show it off until the wedding day! ;) More details about our adventure coming soon! Aloha, The (soon to be) Allison Family Learn more about the beach we are getting married on: http://www.kauai.com/tunnels-beach Grab some tissues. This is a beautiful video showing a young, engaged couple what they will look like as they age, and what they realize as they see the progression of aging. Not only is it fantastic makeup, but a fun, emotional, and beautiful conversation and expression between the couple. In an age where it is easier to throw away and buy new, to get mad and walk away, rather than fix a problem, this is endearing to watch. How fortunate to grow old together, even more fortunate to love and accept one another through everything life gives and takes over the years. Committing, forgiveness, love, honesty, loyalty, and communicating is part of marriage, these things will make it or break it, and marriage is not for those that have a "replacement" outlook. As a slightly older couple than these two, with a bigger age gap, it was still very sweet to watch, and to make us think about growing old together, what we have already faced, and what is to come in the future. |
