Clara is 1! We can't believe it. It is bittersweet. It's hard to see the first year come and gone, to miss the little newborn she once was, and now heading into the toddler years. It's so much fun to watch her grow and learn. She has so much personality. She is very gentle and sweet, always willing to share, and give hugs and kisses. but she is not afraid to be vocal and voice her place in the family either. She still clings to mommy a lot, and doesn't like for other people to hold her. It's a rare moment if she lets anyone else hold her. The Cake Smash!I have been wanting to do a Hawaiian theme for her birthday since I was pregnant. I knew that was what I wanted for her, because I like to call her our little Aloha baby, since she was conceived only a two months after getting married in Kauai. and I just adore all things related to Hawaii, since it has such a special place in my heart. I worked on making her little outfit. A green tulle tutu, with hot glued pink flowers, and a little yellow crochet top with a big flower in the center. She really did not like wearing the skirt. I also couldn't keep a flower crown on her, and barely kept the flowers around her ankles. I managed to get a few shots of her in this outfit, before she totally lost it and made it known to everyone that she was having no part in this photoshoot if she had to continue wearing the skirt. So off came the skirt. She loves to play on my ukulele and sing. She loves music, dancing, and trying to sing along to songs, so of course i had to incorporate the ukulele, which she has heard since she was in the womb. We are all currently thrilled with the new movie, Moana. We play the soundtrack a lot, or at least I do. ;) I get a kick out of watching her bob around the songs and smile. I had that playing in the background in hopes of keeping her content. However, when we placed the cake in front of her, she wasn't sure about what we expected of her. She was hesitant for a bit. Jack kept trying to show her to eat it, and we all kept making "yum, yum" sounds to encourage her to start getting her fingers in it. Clara really isn't a fan of sweet things either. Now, if we give her an onion or lemon she will totally go for it! She just wasn't very happy to be involved with this mess we were trying to encourage her to make and eat. We got some photos of her feeling a range of emotions about the cake from hesitant to curious, willing to try, and downright pissed off about all of it. Some moments she was screaming and crying and then just like a switch had been flipped, she stopped and would go for more cake and seem happy. Thanks for hanging out to check out the blog.We will catch up again soon.
